FASSISI CANDIRO

The rapid test for detection of Dirofilaria immitis in dogs

For simple and fast on-site detection of Dirofilaria immitis (canine heartworm) antigens in whole blood, serum and plasma of dogs.

The pathogens of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) are transmitted through various mosquito species, which use the dog as a host to reproduce themselves. The main geographic range is North America and the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain, Greece, Southern France). The infective third larvae (microfilariae) are transmitted by mosquitoes in the act of sucking on the dog. They get into his bloodstream, where they develop to adult heartworms (macrofilariae) within several months. These grow up to 30cm in length and lodge in the pulmonary artery of the dog. First symptoms appear after about 6 months, typically including fatigue, palpitations, edema in the legs, shortness of breath, cough, heart failure or high blood pressure. Affected animals initially lose weight and condition; cough may come.

In a suspected case of disease the animal should be tested as soon as possible.
