Braided, Coated, Polyglycolic Acid (PGA), Synthetic Absorbable Suture

Visorb® is a coated, braided, synthetic absorbable surgical suture, composed of Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) and is available both dyed and undyed. When dyed, only FDA-approved color additives are used. The undyed suture is milk white in color. The suture is coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate.

TENSILE STRENGTH

Subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats indicate Visorb® suture approximately retains 83% of the original tensile strength at 14 days post implantation, approximately 52% of its original tensile strength at 21 days and approximately and 20% at 28 days post implantation.

ABSORPTION

Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass. Absorption of Visorb® sutures is essentially complete between 60 and 90 days.
